Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is all set to reach Australia in the upcoming days. He would be joining the Indian team in Perth on November 24, Sunday, which would also be the third day of the series opener at the Optus Stadium. He didn't travel with the whole team to Australia initially as he was blessed with a second child last week.

The Men in Blue flew to Australia in three batches from November 10 to 11 but Rohit stayed in India as his wife, Ritika was expecting their second child. The couple was blessed with a baby boy last week and since then there have been speculations about when he will land in Australia.

Earlier there were reports, which revealed that he would reach Perth ahead of the first Test match, which would begin on Friday, but he made it crystal clear that he would miss the 1st Test. But now as per Cricbuzz, he had told the BCCI that he would be landing in Perth on Sunday.

Jasprit Bumrah has replaced him as the captain for the series opener. During the pre-match press conference, he admitted that he was in constant touch with Rohit. "I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here," he told reporters in the pre-match press conference.

Bumrah also talked about the probability of including Mohammed Shami in the squad sometime in the series. "Shami bhai has started to play cricket, and obviously, he is an integral part of this team. I'm sure the management is also keeping a keen eye. Hopefully, things fall in place and you might see him here as well," he concluded.

The BCCI has told Shami to currently play in all domestic tournaments and has also been added to Bengal's team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The T20 tournament would begin in different phases from November 23 and Shami would be seen in action in Rajkot. He will first get a clearance from NCA to even be considered for the Test series against Australia.
