Joe Root and Ollie Pope stitched a partnership of 39 runs post Nitish Kumar Reddy's double whammy as the hosts had scored 83/2 in 25 overs till lunch.

Reddy, who is known for bowling at genuine speed and taking advantage of the new red ball, took two wickets during the first four balls as Duckett and Crawley became his victims after surviving the first hour of the match. Root (24 not out) and Pope (12 not out) helped the host bounce back and ensured not to lose any more wickets till lunch.

Jasprit Bumrah had replaced Prasidh Krishna in India's playing XI and Akash Deep gave a hard time to a struggling Zak Crawley, who was seen shuffling during Akash's third over. During the eighth over, Crawley had smashed three fours as Akash had bowled wide balls and then the ball went over the slip cordon.

Bumrah had bowld four overs and had given Ben Duckett a hard time and then had beaten his and Crawley's inside edge and also produced swing. Post the tea break, the visitors' changed their bowling attack as Reddy bowled a slower delivery to Duckett, who gifted his wicket to Rishabh Pant.

Reddy then finished the 14th over by dismissing Crawley by bowling a lengthy delivery, which produced an extra bounce and Pant took th catch. Since Pope had a hard time scoring runs in this series till now, it was Root, who took over the reigns of scoring runs and smashed Mohammed Siraj for two consecutive boundaries and then had hit another four in Akash Deep's over and the session ended.
