Buchi Babu Tournament 2024: Wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan starred with the bat in the ongoing Buchi Babu invitational tournament, where he scored a brilliant hundred for his home team Jharkhand in their tournament opener against Madhya Pradesh on Friday. The youngster, who is leading the team from the front, played a huge role by hitting nine sixes in 39 balls.

Madhya Pradesh was skittled out for 225 runs on Day 2 and then Kishan came into bat at the No.6 position when the team was in a state of border. He then batted aggressively, by smashing nine sixes off 39 balls and eventually scored his hundred off 86 balls. His gritty knock helped the team move past Madhya Pradesh's first innings totals and put the team in the driver's position.

Kishan's comeback to form is noteworthy as he had asked for a break at the end of last year as he was exhausted. But this didn't go down well with the national selectors, who dropped him from India's 2024 T20 World Cup squad. Earlier this year, both he and Shreyas Iyer were released from BCCI's central contract list as they didn't play in the domestic red-ball matches. Despite all the challenges, Kishan bounced back in IPL 2024, where he played for Mumbai Indians and scored 320 runs after playing in 14 matches, which included one fifty as well.

Kishan also talked about his decision to not play in domestic cricket this year. Kishan, who last played for India in the 5-match T20I series against Australia last year was also included in the squad for the all-format series against South Africa. However, he withdrew from the Test team due to personal reasons.

"It was depressing. Today I don't want to say that everything was fine. It was not easy for me at all. You go through a lot. Mere dimag mey ye sab chalta raha ki yaar kya hoga gaya, kyu ho gaya, mere saath kyu (Questions like what happened, why me). All these things happened when I was performing," Kishan was quoted as saying to the Indian Express.
