Cricket World Cup 2023, AUS vs NED: Australia delivered a resounding victory over the Netherlands, surpassing the previous record for the biggest margin of victory in ODI history with a staggering 309-run win at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Glenn Maxwell's outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award for his remarkable 106-run knock. Maxwell's century, achieved in just 40 balls, set a new World Cup record, surpassing Aiden Markram's previous mark.
Adam Zampa achieved an exceptional feat by securing three consecutive 4+ wicket hauls, breaking a record that had stood for nearly five decades. His outstanding performance surpassed the achievement of Gary Gilmour, Shane Warne, Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson, each with two such hauls.
In the context of this massive victory, the Netherlands faced their biggest defeat in terms of runs in ODIs, with the previous record being a 232-run loss to England in Amstelveen last year. The historic win for Australia is now one of the biggest in terms of runs in ODI history, ranking second only to India's 317-run victory against Sri Lanka in Trivandrum in 2023.
The Australian team put up a formidable total of 399 for 8 after choosing to bat. The foundation was laid by David Warner, who scored a magnificent century with 104 runs from 92 balls. He was well-supported by Steve Smith, who contributed 71, and Marnus Labuschagne with 62.
However, it was Glenn Maxwell who truly stole the spotlight. He reached his century in just 40 balls, making it the fourth fastest century in ODI history. Maxwell's blitzkrieg saw Australia accumulating 131 runs in the last 10 overs, pushing the Dutch bowlers to the limit.

In response, the Netherlands faced a daunting target of 400 runs and could only manage 90 runs before being bowled out in 21 overs. Starc initiated the early breakthrough, and a well-executed run-out dismissed Vikramjit Singh, who seemed to be in good form. After that point, the match took a clear one-sided direction. Mitchell Marsh, despite not having bowled much recently, managed to pick up two wickets.
The victory propelled Australia into the top four in this World Cup edition, accumulating six points. Following defeats to home favourites India and South Africa, Australia secured their third consecutive win in the tournament. Their next challenge will be against New Zealand on October 28.
