Ex-cricketer Damien Martyn, who has represented Australia in 67 Test matches, is suffering from a serious health condition at a Brisbane hospital, as per Australian media. He fell ill a few days ago, and as per multiple reports, he went into an induced coma and is suffering from meningitis.
“Lots of love and prayers sending (at) damienmartyn way. Keep strong and fighting legend. Love to the family,” his fellow Test teammate Darren Lehmann wrote on his social media account.
“He is getting the best of treatment, and (Martyn’s partner) Amanda and his family know that a lot of people are sending their prayers and best wishes,” Adam Gilchrist was quoted as saying to News Corp.
Todd Greenberg, who is the chief executive of Cricket Australia, has wished Martyn a quick recovery.
“I’m saddened to hear of Damien’s illness. The best wishes of everyone at CA and in the wider cricket community are with him at this time,” he added.
Martyn's strength was his brilliant stroke play as he batted at an average of 46.37 in the longest format.
He made his Test debut when he was 21 years old, replacing Dean Jones in the 1992-1993 home Test series against West Indies, and led Western Australia from the front when he was 23 years old.
He registered his highest individual score of 165 against New Zealand way back in 2005.
He played his last Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval in 2006-07 and then became a commentator.
He has played in 208 one-day internationals at an average of 40.8. He was also a part of the 1999 and 2003 World Cup-winning team, where he scored an unbeaten against the Men in Blue in 2003, and was also a part of the 2006 Champions Trophy-winning team.
