Former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori has replaced West Indies legendary batter Brian Lara as Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise announced on Monday.

Vettori was previously associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore as their head coach from 2014 to 2018, and is currently part of Australian men's team coaching staff as assistant coach.

"Kiwi legend Daniel Vettori joins #OrangeArmy as Head Coach," Sunrisers wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Vettori's appointment means the SRH will have their fourth head coach in a span of six years. Tom Moody (2019 and 2022), Trevor Bayliss (2020 and 2021), and Lara (2023) held the role before the Kiwi.

Under Lara's stint, SRH finished at the last spot in IPL 2023 season with 10 losses and four wins.

The renowned left-arm spinner, Vettori, is currently coaching The Hundred franchise Birmingham Phoenix. During his four-year stint with RCB, Virat Kohli's side qualified for the playoffs in 2015 and played the final in the next season.

"As our two-year association with Lara came to an end, we bid adieu to him," SRH said.

Ahead of the 2024 season, there have been three high-profile coaching-related announcements in the IPL. Justin Langer replaced head coach Andy Flower at the Lucknow Super Giants while Flower soon after accepted the same position at RCB.
