Indian captain Hardik Pandya was bold enough to blame the team's batting performance for their loss in the 2nd T20I against West Indies in Guyana on Sunday.

The hosts survived a late collapse and managed to pick up a thrilling victory by just two wickets to go 2-0 up in the five-match series.

Akeal Hosein (16)* and Alzarri Joseph (10)* took their team to victory with seven balls to spare as India put up another disappointing performance.

“If am being honest that was a not a pleasing batting performance, we could have batted better,” the Indian skipper said at the post-match presentation, “160+ or 170 would have been a good total. The way he (Tilak Varma) has been batting, becomes very difficult to rotate spinners. 2/2 and the way he batted, took the game quite into their hands.

Hardik said that the team will have to trust their top seven batters to come good and hope the bowlers will win games. The India captain once again urged his batters to take more responsibility.

“With the current combination we have we will have to trust our top 7 batters to come good and hope the bowlers win you games. We have to find ways to make sure we have the right balance but at the same time, batters need to take more responsibility. The left-hander coming at 4 gives us variety. It doesn’t feel like it’s his second international game,” he added.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Men in Blue once again looked struggling and managed to score 152 runs in their 20 overs on the back of Tilak Varma's 51 who scored his maiden half-century.

Defending the target, the Indian bowlers particularly Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh, put up a commendable fight as the duo took two wickets each.

However, their efforts were not enough to prevent the West Indies from reaching the target.
