WPL 2026 Updates: Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder Ellyse Perry has been ruled out of the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL)2026 season, whereas Delhi Capitals will be without ace all-rounder Annabel Sutherland for the fourth season in a major blow for both teams.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that the Australian duo of Perry and Sutherland have opted out due to personal reasons. Several other players, including Tara Norris, will not be available for the UP Warriorz as the WPL's governing council confirmed a list of replacements.The WPL 2026 is set to begin on January 9 with the season opener between defending champions Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Notably, Perry, who has been an incredible player in women's cricket history, was retained by RCB for Rs. 2 crore and will be replaced by an Indian all-rounder, Sayali Satghare, for Rs. 30 lakhs.

Sutherland was also retained by the Capitals for Rs. 2.2 crore. Her place will be taken by star Australian spinner Alana King, who will be paid Rs. 60 lakh. Talking about Norris, she has been picked in the USA team for the Women's T20 World Cup qualifiers from January 18 to 1st February, and joined the Warriors for Rs 10 lakh in the auction. However, they will now be replaced by Australia's Charlie Knott, who will be paid the same salary.

Perry's absence will be a massive blow to RCB as the veteran's ability to produce impactful contributions in all departments will be hugely missed. It will be interesting to see who steps up in her place for the WPL 2024 champions.

Ashleigh Gardner to lead Gujarat Giants

Ahead of the upcoming WPL season, Australia's senior all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner has been named as the new captain of the Gujarat Giants. She has played 25 matches for the Giants in the first three seasons, scoring 567 runs with five half-centuries. She also has 25 wickets at an economy rate of 8.34 to her name.
