ENG vs SL: England Test skipper Ben Stokes got back in the training session on Saturday, just two weeks after he sustained a hamstring injury. Stokes got injured while playing for the Hundred and was then ruled out from the rest of the English summer.
Ollie Pope replaced him as the captain of the side for the Test series against Sri Lanka. Although Stokes did join the team for the ongoing series and was also spotted with the support staff in the first Test.
"England Men's Test Captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out for the rest of the summer after tearing his left hamstring while playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sunday. As a result of the scans conducted in Leeds on Tuesday, Stokes will miss England's three-match Rothesay Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins at Emirates Old Trafford on Wednesday, 21 August. There will be no addition to the squad for this series," a statement released by the ECB said.

There are high chance that he will recover well in time for the Test series against Pakistan.
Stoke's white-ball future uncertain
He might be back in training session, but there is no clarity as to whether Stokes will be playing in the ODI series against Australia or not as he currently has shifted all his focus to the longest format. He last played in white-ball cricket in the 2023 ODI World Cup and then pulled himself out of the 2024 T20 World Cup as he prioritized his fitness for Test cricket.
He also bowled at lengths in the recently concluded Test series against West Indies and the fans are looking forward for him to get fully fit to play in all formats for England.
