Asia Cup 2025: All eyes would be on the team selected by the BCCI for Asia Cup 2025, which would be held in the UAE next month, and ex-cricketer Priyank Panchal had reckoned that the board should focus on selecting the best openers and finishers and that the rest of the batting lineup should be flexible as per the situation.
The Men in Blue last played in the shortest format way back in February this year, where they had defeated England by 4-1. They will now be seen in action in this format again after a gap of almost six months during the upcoming continental tournament. Ahishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma have been India's top-order batting line-up since the last few T20I series.
But players like India's Test captain Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul had also performed brilliantly during IPL 2025, and the batting attack selected for this tournament could become interesting.
What Did Priyank Panchal Say?
“I think we obsess too much over batting positions in T20s for the sake of endless discussions and analysis. Just pick the best openers, best finishers, and the rest can float around as per the situation," Panchal had written in 'Ask Me Anything' session on his official X account.
The Men in Blue would face UAE during their tournament opener and then against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai, and will then face Oman during their last group stage match in Abu Dhabi.
India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman have been put in Group A, whereas Group B includes Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. It is the first time that the upcoming continental tournament will be held in the shortest format, as the teams would prepare for the 2026 T20 World Cup, where eight teams would participate.

The top two teams from all the groups would then qualify for the Super 4 stage, where the top two teams will lock horns with each other during the summit clash, which would be held in Dubai. The Men in Blue are the reigning champions of this tournament, as they had defeated Sri Lanka during the 2023 edition at their backyard. Sri Lanka had last won this tournament way back in 2022 in the shortest format, where they had beaten Pakistan during the summit clash.
