A fire broke out in the dressing room of the iconic venue on Wednesday during the renovation work ahead of the World Cup.

The workers were the first to notice the fire. The fire department was immediately informed, after which they brought the situation under control with a short effort of two engines.

The fire reportedly broke out in the false ceiling of the dressing room where the equipment of the cricketers was kept. Although the damage was not that great, all the belongings of the players there were burnt.

Initially, it was believed that the fire was caused by a short circuit. The incident, meanwhile, has put the famous venue's infrastructure into question with few months left for the marquee event.

The cause of the incident is being investigated. With the World Cup knocking on the door, the renovation work is going on vigorously not only at the Eden Gardens but also at all World Cup stadiums. September 15 is the target to complete the renovation of the iconic venue.

However, an ICC delegation remained satisfied with the work and the progress at the venue and will visit once again next month for another inspection.

As per sources from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), there is no CCTV connection right now in the stadiums as the board cannot afford more errors ahead of the World Cup.

Joint Secretary Debabrata Das rushed to the venue after the news of fire breaking out at the Eden Gardens came out and two fire engines were called who arrived and brought the situation under control within an hour.
