IPL 2025: After a break of eight days, the IPL 2025 is all set to restart from May 17. Around seven teams- Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Lucknow Super Giants are still in contention to reach the playoffs. But before the season resumes, there are a lot of teams that are mulling over the availability of a few foreign players owing to different reasons. There are reports that a few players chose not to come back to India owing to personal reasons, the others could just miss due to injuries, and the rest will miss owing to international duties.
The uncertainty around the availability of these players will also affect their hopes of lifting the IPL 2025 trophy.
Here’s a look at 10 players who are set to miss the IPL 2025 playoffs:
1. Jos Buttler [GT]: Jos Buttler represented Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 at the No.3 position and has scored 500 runs after playing in 11 matches till now. He is also a part of England's ODI team for the three-match series against West Indies, which will begin from May 29, and thus would be missing the last stage of the ongoing season.
2. Jacob Bethell [RCB]: He batted as an opener for the Bengaluru-based franchise during their last two group stage matches against Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings, and just like Buttler, he is also a part of England's ODI team. He would be reaching India this week for RCB's last two group matches and would then go back before the playoffs begin.
3. Will Jacks [MI]: He has played in 11 matches for MI till now and was also adjudged the player of the match award for two matches. During their last group stage match against GT at their backyard, he did smash a half-century, but owing to the ODI series against West Indies, he might not play in the playoffs.
4. Ryan Rickleton [MI]: This Protea wicket-keeper batter represented MI in IPL 2025. He has scored 336 runs after playing in 12 matches but won't be featuring in MI's last group stage clash against PBKS, which would be held on May 26, according to NOCs received by Cricket South Africa.
5. Corbin Bosch [MI]: The Mumbai-based franchise roped in South Africa's star all-rounder Corbin Bosch as Lizaad Williams replacement, played his debut match against LSG last month. He did play MI's last three group stage matches and performed brilliantly, but like Rickleton, he too is a part of South Africa's WTC final team, and just like the other South African players, he would be going back by May 25.
6. Kagiso Rabada [GT]: The Protea pacer Kagiso Rabada has played for GT this year. He was part of the playing XI of the first few matches and then flew back to South Africa owing to personal reasons, which later turned out to be a suspension for using recreational drugs. He did join the Gujarat-based franchise last week before IPL 2025's suspension. Rabada is also part of South Africa's WTC final team and will be going back by May 25.
7. Gerald Coetzee [GT]: He, too, is part of GT and also South Africa's WTC 2025 final team. If the CSA doesn't grant NOCs to their WTC final-bound players, then Coetzee won't be featuring in the playoffs.
8. Marco Jansen [PBKS]: This South African all-rounder represented PBKS this year. He has played in all matches of IPL 2025 and also played a huge role in helping the team win multiple matches. He, too, is part of South Africa's 2025 WTC final team and won't be available for the playoffs.
9. Lungi Ngidi [RCB]: He recently made his IPL 2025 debut for RCB this month during their clash against CSK and took three wickets. He, too, would be giving the playoffs a miss owing to his being a part of South Africa's WTC 2025 final team.
10. Tristan Stubbs [DC]: South Africa's middle-order batter would be missing the playoffs if the Axar Patel-led team reaches it. Stubbs is also part of South Africa's 15-member WTC final team and will be going back by May 25.
Besides them, there are speculations that Australia's star pacer Mitchell Starc won't be returning to India to participate in IPL 2025, and fast bowler Josh Hazlewood too would be giving it a miss owing to a shoulder injury. Jake Fraser-McGurk has already pulled out due to personal reasons.
