India's T20 World Cup 2024 Squad Prediction: With the squad submission date for the T20 World Cup 2024 inching close, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) men's team chief selector Ajit Agarkar will have a lot on his table before picking the final 15 for the blockbuster tournament in the United States and the West Indies.
With myriad World Cup bound players returning to action in the ongoing IPL 2024, let us take a look at the performance of each player who are in line to catch a flight for the North American countries.
India's T20 World Cup 2024 Squad Prediction
Openers - Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Subman Gill
Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian side while Yashasvi Jaiswal is the front-runner to pair with him at the top order. Shubman Gill is also in contention for the role but stands behind Jaiswal in the race.
Rohit Sharma: The former Mumbai Indians captain came late to his groove in the season but has been in touch with the bat. The opener has smashed 311 runs in nine games including a century. He is scoring runs at an average of 38.88 and with a strike rate of 160.30.
Yashasvi Jaiswal: After facing a sluggish start of the season, the Rajasthan Royals opener marked his presence with an unbeaten 104* against Mumbai Indians in Jaipur earlier this week. In nine matches, the southpaw has accumulated 249 runs at a convincing strike rate of 154.65. He also smashed 30 fours and 10 sixes in the tournament so far.
Shubman Gill: In his inaugural season as the captain of Gujarat Titans, the batter has scored 304 runs in nine matches including two half-centuries. He has also slammed 27 fours and nine sixes.
Middle order - Virat Kohli, Surayakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh
Virat Kohli: The prolific senior batter is on song in this edition of the cash-rich league. His form ahead of the showpiece showdown is a boon for the Men in Blue. Kohli is the leading run-getter in the tournament with 430 runs in nine matches. He has fired three fifties and a century in his another stellar season with the bat. He is the Orange Cap holder in the tournament with an impressive average of 61.43 and a strike rate of 145.76.
Suryakumar Yadav: Mumbai Indians batter is playing his first competitive tournament of the year after recovering from twin surgeries which kept him out of action for months. The swashbuckling player has displayed his skills in the IPL 2024 and proved his tag of the world no.1 T20I batter. In six games of the season, Suryakumar has hammered two half-centuries including 19-ball 52.
Rinku Singh: Despite getting limited opportunities to showcase his talent this season, the 26-year-old has played some promising cameo knocks for Kolkata Knight Riders in the death overs to mark his place in the squad. In eight matches, Rinku has scored 112 runs with a staggering strike rate of 157.74. He has scored more than half of his total runs in boundaries.
Wicketkeepers - Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, (KL Rahul*)
Sanju Samson: Rajasthan Royals captain is the front-runner to fill the role of wicketkeeper-batter in the squad with his top-notch performance in the league. In nine matches, he has scored 384 runs with the help of four half-centuries, the most in the running season. He has been the batting pillar for his franchise with an average of 77.00. His strike rate stands at 161.08 in the middle order. He is the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2024.
Rishabh Pant: The comeback player has announced his arrival with back-to-back half-centuries at the start of the season but he has returned to full blast against Gujarat Titans at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. He stormed 88* off 43 balls including eight sixes and five fours to reach his highest total of the season. In 10 matches, Pant amassed 371 runs including three fifties at a strike rate of 160.60.
KL Rahul (378 runs in nine matches) is also in contention for the role but his strike rate and batting position make his last in the battle for wicketkeepers.
All-rounders - Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya
Ravindra Jadeja: In eight matches, the Chennai Super Kings all-rounder has scored 157 runs with a best knock of 57* in the late middle order. He also scalped four wickets so far in the tournament and is all set to board the flight for the T20 World Cup.
Axar Patel: The left-handed batter has scored 134 runs in 10 games including a half-century. The spinner has also bagged seven wickets with his economical bowling.
Hardik Pandya: Mumbai Indians captain has been having an off-season with 197 runs in nine games. He is also not at his peak bowling prowess with only four scalps in the limited overs he has bowled so far.
Bowlers - Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, (Yuzvendra Chahal*)
Bumrah has been the top wicket-taker in the tournament with 14 wickets in nine games while Yuzvendra Chahal is third on the standings with 13 wickets in nine matches. Kuldeep Yadav comes fifth on the list with 12 scalps in seven matches. Arshdeep Singh has scalped 12 wickets in nine games for Punjab Kings while Mohammed Siraj has been off-colour with only five wickets in eight matches.
