Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar questioned the BCCI management for benching Sanju Samson in the second T20I against England. Notably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi replaced Samson in the second T20I against England which was played at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester.

Manjrekar said that while it was great to see Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finally making his debut in the Indian senior team, the selection should not come at the expense of Sanju Samson. He advised that if the Kerala-born wicketkeeper batter is not injured, he could have easily slotted in at No. 3.

“Great to see Vaibhav in India colours. But what about Samson! Dropped?? Are you kidding me! No, I guess, injured. Let’s hope it’s an injury. Or it’s the most bizarre selection. Could have easily batted at 3 if you wanted to get Vaibhav in,” Manjrekar posted on X.

Sooryavanshi, who was making headlines after being ignored in the two-match series against Ireland and the T20I opener against England, became India's youngest debutant to play international cricket. He surpassed cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar, who donned India's jersey at the age of 16 years and 205 days old in a Test match against Pakistan in November 1989. Shafali was 15 years and 239 days old when she made her debut in a T20I against South Africa in Surat. Sooryavanshi is 15 years and 99 days old.
