Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell did wonders for his side against Netherlands as he smashed a 40-ball century and broke Aiden Markram's 49-ball record for the fastest ton in the ODI World Cup. His knock was studded with eight sixes and nine fours that helped Australia crush Netherlands by 309 runs to register the biggest-ever win in the tournament's history.
Maxwell fired at a strike rate of 240.91 and completed his final 50 runs in just 13 balls. He took a special liking towards Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek and hammered them all around the park.
Talking about his innings, Maxwell said it will boost his confidence in the tournament as he was having a below-average performance before this. Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium gave the best opportunity for Maxwell to regain his touch and express himself in the middle.
"I was just trying to give ourselves a good platform at the end. You can certainly cash in on this ground with bat (batting first towards the end) and it seams under lights. Nice to get some rhythm finally in the tournament. Huge confidence booster," Maxwell said at the post-match presentation.
"Some doubts do creep in when you are consistently not making runs. Hopefully, I can ride forward from this. Pretty much the perfect game with bat and ball for us. Three wins now and certainly starting to get that momentum as a team," he added.
Opting to bat first, David Warner (104), Steve Smith (71) and Marnus Labuschagene (62) gave the perfect start to their innings against Netherlands. Maxwell continued the momentum in the final overs to guide Australia to a magnanimous 399/8 in 50 overs.

Adam Zampa's 4/8 in his three overs and Mitchell Marsh's 2-19 helped Australia to bundle out Netherlands for 90/10 in 21 overs to get two crucial points in the competition.
With six points in five matches, Australia sit at fourth spot in the points table and will next take on New Zealand in Dharamsala on Saturday, October 28.
