IPL 2025: Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer etched his name in the Indian Premier League's record books on Tuesday, joining Ajinkya Rahane in an elite list. 

The 30-year-old right-handed batter achieved a notable milestone while leading Punjab against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, becoming only the fifth player in IPL history to have captained three different teams.

Iyer had a wealth of captaincy experience even before his IPL captaincy debut for Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday. He had already led Delhi Capitals over three seasons for a total of 41 matches and captained Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for 29 matches.

Notably, Iyer holds the distinction of being the only captain in IPL history to have played in the final with two different teams.

Four players have since the beginning of the Indian Premier League (IPL) helmed the captaincy of three teams. This elite list includes Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Steve Smith, and Ajinkya Rahane.

Notably, Kumar Sangakkara's captaincy was spectacular in the Punjab Kings-13 matches in 2010, Deccan Chargers-25 matches, and Sunrisers Hyderabad-9 matches in 2013.
