MI-W vs GG-W, WPL 2026: Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur scripted her name in the record books as she became only the second player to complete 1000 runs in the Women's Premier League. The Mumbai Indians captain reached the milestone during their WPL 2026 match against the Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday. On the back of Harmanpreet's impressive performance, MI defeated GG by 7 wickets.

Apart from Harmanpreet, England's Nat Sciver-Brunt, who is also her MI teammate, is the other player to go past the 1000-run mark in the WPL. Harmanpreet, who was retained for Rs 2.50 crore by MI ahead of WPL 2026 mega auctions, headed into the match 55 runs short of the feat. She achieved the record during the 18th over of MI's innings during their challenging run chase. Notably, the senior batter is the second top run-getter in the history of the tournament.

Nat Sciver-Brunt (MI): 1101 runs in 31 matches

Harmanpreet Kaur (MI): 1016 runs in 30 matches

Meg Lanning (DC, UPW): 996 runs in 29 matches

Ellyse Perry (RCB): 972 runs in 25 matches

Shafali Verma (DC): 887 runs in 29 matches

Harmanpreet, who was playing her 30th WPL match on Tuesday, has been associated with the MI since the tournament's first season. Apart from her batting brilliance, her leadership qualities have also brought major success to MI, winning the two WPL titles.

She is also the player with the most runs in the WPL as captain, and is followed by Meg Lanning and Smriti Mandhana in the elite list. On the back of her unbeaten 71-run knock in just 43 balls, MI chased down the 193-run target in 19.2 overs. She smashed seven fours and a couple of sixes and was adjudged as the Player of the Match.

"It was a good game. I think while bowling, we gave away too many runs. Again, we need to sit down and discuss our plans. But batting-wise, we were good. We calculated it well. Amanjot and I, while batting together, calculated things nicely. She batted beautifully, and in the end, Nicola Carey came in and took all the pressure off me. So overall, it was a good game for us," Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation.
