India women captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted that her players were not up to the mark and stressed learning from the mistakes after a 38-run loss against England in the first T20I at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Put into bat first by India, Danni Wyatt and Nat Sciver-Brunt smashed 75 and 77 runs respectively to guide the visitors to 197/6 in 20 overs.
Chasing the target, Shafali Verma played an anchor role with a knock of 52 runs but failed to get support from the middle order as Sophie Ecclestone picked three wickets to put the hosts under pressure. India finished at 159/6 in 20 overs, far behind the winning score in the series opener.

The Indian captain feels that they will come back stronger in the remaining matches of the series.
"They will learn quickly and we need these kinda games so that we can learn from our mistakes before the T20 World Cup. We know they have good batters and we had a few changes in our bowling department and we will come back stronger," Harmanpreet said in the post-match presentation.

She further mentioned that the last 10 overs did not go well in their favour and changed the momentum of the match. India were 88/2 after 10 overs with Haranpreet and Shafali in the middle but could not stretch the partnership further as the hosts went on to lose wickets at regular intervals.
"We were not up to the mark and we need to discuss positives and come up with a positive attitude in the next game. After losing a couple of wickets, we had control over the game but the last 10 overs didn't quite go to plan," Harmanpreet said.
The second T20I between India and England will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, December 9.
