ICC ODI Rankings: India's batting mogul Rohit Sharma has attained the second position in the latest men’s one-day international batting rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.

Despite not having participated in cricket since the 2025 IPL season, the 38-year-old India captain rose to second position after Pakistan's prime batter Babar Azam dropped to third in the ranking after a string of low scores in the ODI series against West Indies.

Rohit trails behind Shubman Gill, who retained the No. 1 position in the rankings with 784 points. Rohit has 756 rating points at the second position, while Babar holds 751 points in the third spot.

Former skipper Virat Kohli remains in fourth position in the ICC ODI rankings with 736 points, but looks to capitalise on his return for the three-match ODI series against Australia in October.

The latest ranking came at a time when the speculation was growing about Rohit and Virat's ODI future; however, the BCCI has downplayed the urgency in deciding their careers, after several media reports claimed that the two players might retire after the tour of Australia in October.

India's batting prowess shone bright in the ICC ODI rankings, with the five players occupying positions in the top 15. Other than Gill, Rohit and Kohli, Shreyas Iyer holds the eighth spot, while wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul rounds out the list at 15th.

Kohli and Rohit's last ODI appearance was in India's victorious Champions Trophy campaign earlier this year. Rohit delivered a match-defining knock of 76 to set up India's thriving chase of 252 against New Zealand in Dubai.

Kohli, on the other hand, amassed 218 runs in five matches, including a spectacular century against arch-rival Pakistan in Dubai.
