ICC World Cup 2023 Schedule: Hosts India will begin their campaign against Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8 while the tournament opener was played between defending champions England and New Zealand on October 5.
New Zealand had an electric start to the marquee tournament as they crushed England by nine wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Australia are the most successful team in the history of the tournament with five titles (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015) to their name. West Indies and India (1983, 2011) have both clinched the title two times while Pakistan (1992), Sri Lanka (1996) and England (2019) have lifted the trophy one time each.
The last three editions of the ICC Cricket ODI World Cup have been won by the host nation since 2011. MS Dhoni-led India became the first team to win the ODI World Cup trophy on their home soil followed by Australia in 2015 and England in 2019.
Rohit Sharma-led India will look to continue the home team winning streak in the showpiece event in the summit clash at world's largest cricket stadium on November 19.
The 13th edition of the tournament will be played across 10 venues across the country. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad will host the 48 matches from October 5 to November 19.
