ICC Test Rankings: India's star fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has achieved his career-best position as per the latest ICC Test rankings on the back of his brilliant performances during the fifth and last Test match at the Oval. Siraj had jumped to 12 positions after taking nine wickets during the game, which also included a five-for and helped the visitors win the match by six runs and level the series by 2-2.
The Ollie Pope-led side needed just 35 runs to win the match, and with four wickets remaining, a riled-up Siraj, who was adjudged the Player of the match award, as he had taken three wickets, including that of Gus Atkinson, helped the visitors register a famous win.
Siraj's previous best ICC ranking was 16th, achieved last year.
Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who managed his workload after playing in just three Test matches, maintained his top position by scoring 889 points.
Praisdh Krishna too achieved his career-best ranking of 59th position since he and Siraj had become the second Indian duo to have taken four or more wickets apiece during both innings of a Test match, and this is a milestone which was last achieved by Bishan Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna way back in 1969 against Australia.
India's star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal re-entered the top five Test batter rankings after he smashed his second hundred of the series at the Oval.
Jaiswal jumped to three positions and scored 792 points. At the same time, Rishabh Pant, the country's only batter, who has entered the top 10 rankings, has now slipped to the eighth position after giving the fifth and the last Test match a miss owing to a foot injury.
England's star batter Joe Root has reclaimed his top position after smashing his third hundred by playing in as many matches, whereas Harry Brook's knock of 111 runs off 98 balls has helped him to jump to the second position.
As far as the bowlers are concerned, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue have also achieved their career-best rankings after taking eight wickets apiece during the fifth Test match. Atkinson has entered the top 10, whereas Tongue jumped to 14 spots and is currently lying at 46th position.
