IND vs ENG 5th Test: England's star batter Harry Brook has reckoned that he didn't deserve to be adjudged the player of the series award for the five-match Test series against India. He revealed that Joe Root deserved it more since he had consistently scored runs in the series.
Brook was the fifth highest run-getter as he had scored 481 runs after playing in five matches at a staggering average of 53.44, which also includes two centuries and two half-centuries. At the same time, Root was the second highest run-getter as he had scored 537 runs after playing in nine innings at a brilliant average of 67.12, which includes three centuries and one half-century.
Even though he might have scored fewer runs than Root, Brook was adjudged the Player of the series award by Gautam Gambhir, and that left him stunned.
“I didn't score as many runs as Rooty (Joe Root), so I probably think he should be Man of the Series or Man of the Summer. He has been for many years,” Brook was quoted as saying to BBC Sport.
At the same time, Brook also talked about what was going on in his mind when he got during the fifth and the last Test match and revealed that he was trying to reduce the deficit by scoring quick runs. He also lamented the fact that he couldn't take the team across the line.
"At the time, I was very confident. If I'd got a quick 30 in the next couple of overs, then the game is done. That was my thought process. I always try to take the game on and put them under pressure. I wish I were there at the end. I've played all right. I could have won that game yesterday, which is devastating, but I'm just happy to contribute to as many games as I can,” he concluded.

Brook got out after scoring a brilliant knock of 111 runs off 97 balls and left the host reeling at 301/4, and they needed 73 runs to win the match and the series. But after his wicket, the team suffered a batting collapse and they were skittled out for 367 runs, and thus the Shubman Gill-led side won the match by six runs and leveled the series at 2-2.
After having a brilliant run at the home Test series, Harry Brook will face a daunting task during his debut Ashes series in Down Under later this year. He will aim to continue his sublime form and help the team win the prestigious Test series for the first time in 14 years in Australia.
