U19 World Cup 2024: India kickstarted their U19 World Cup campaign with a comprehensive 84-run win against Bangladesh. The victory was highlighted by a century stand between Adarsh Singh and skipper Uday Saharan in the first innings.
The brilliance in batting was matched by Saumy Pandey’s Four-fer in bowling, helping India defend 251 run score on a track where stroke-making was not straightforward
Adarsh's patient fifty, accumulating 76 runs off 96 balls, laid the foundation for India's innings. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock. Despite facing challenges against the disciplined Bangladesh spinners, Adarsh, along with skipper Uday (64 off 94 balls), stitched together a crucial 116-run partnership for the third wicket.

The duo navigated through a tough phase against spin, with off-spinner Sheikh Paevez Jibon and left-arm spinner Mahfuzur Rahaman Rabby applying pressure.
Left-arm seamer Maruf Mridha posed a threat to the Indian batting lineup, finishing with figures of 5/43. His skiddy action and variation in lengths troubled the Indian batters throughout the innings. However, Sachin Dhas played a vital role as the designated finisher, contributing an unbeaten cameo of 26 runs off 20 balls during the death overs, propelling India past the 250-run mark.
In reply, Bangladesh faced early setbacks as Murugan Abhishek's brilliant catch provided the breakthrough, and Saumy struck twice in two overs during the powerplay, reducing Bangladesh to 41/3. Arshin Kulkarni further added to Bangladesh's woes by dismissing Ahrar Amin lbw in the 15th over.

Despite a commendable 77-run stand between Mohammad Shihab James and Ahrar Amin, the asking rate kept climbing, leading to the downfall of the Bangladesh batting order. Musheer Khan's crucial breakthroughs removed the set batters, and Saumy took the last wicket of the match.
India will next play Ireland on January 25 in their second match of Group A. India are placed alongside USA, Bangladesh and Ireland in Group A.
