India star batter Virat Kohli's chasing masterclass created a world record as their clash against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2023 at Dharamsala on Sunday garnered the highest-ever viewership for a live cricket match.
The peak viewership of 4.3 crore on Disney+ Hotstar, an online streaming partner for the ICC World Cup, came during the business end of the match when Kohli was eyeing his second consecutive century.
Kohli was dismissed on 95 but his knock promised victory to India as Ravindra Jadeja (39*) finished the job with a boundary to maintain a perfect win record in the tournament. India won the match by four wickets at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala.

The previous viewership record was created during the high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14 with a peak viewership of 3.5 crore.
"A total of 4.3 crore viewers were tuned in when experienced batter Virat Kohli left the ground after being dismissed for 95 in Dharamsala - the highest peak concurrency number achieved across all formats of cricket - beating the previous record of 3.5 crore viewers that was achieved when India took on Pakistan earlier in the tournament," ICC said in a release.
Disney+ Hotstar head Sajith Sivanandan is happy to attain a new height in the viewership of the marquee event and hopes to continue to serve the fans.

"We want to thank our users who flocked to Disney+ Hotstar for the thrilling game between India vs New Zealand, and helped us reset the world record for concurrent viewers for a live streaming event. We served 4.3 crore concurrent viewers (43 million) at its peak during the match - a historical high and easily surpasses the 3.5 crore number (35 million) previously set for the India vs Pakistan match in the same tournament,” Sivanandan said.
"As the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 enters its business end and as it grabs the attention of India increasingly, we will continue to strive towards bringing these memorable moments to our users' screens," he added.
With four wins in as many matches, India attained the top spot in the points table with 10 points. India will next take on England at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on October 29.
