India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has impressed top Australian cricketers like Steve Smith, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Alex Carey, who believe he has the potential to become a cricket superstar.

Prominent Australian players have been vocal in their admiration of Jaiswal's talent, Labuschagne, in particular, has maintained a close eye on the left-handed India opener, saying that Jaiswal looks like a “proper cricketer for all formats.”

The 22-year-old left-handed Indian batter had a stellar start to his international career, scoring 171 on his Test format debut against West Indies in July 2023. Then he went on to slam a total of 712 runs in the five-match series against England in the series earlier this year, becoming the only India to score more than 700 runs in a Test series.

Additionally, Jaiswal became a household name in the T20Is too as well as he amassed 723 runs to his name in 23 matches so far.

In a video uploaded by Star Sports Tamil on X, Australian cricketers were asked to choose the Indian player who they believe has the potential to become the next-generation superstar. Star Australian players like Smith, along with Starc, Hazlewood, and Lyon, picked Jaiswal, while Travis Head and Cameron Green chose Shubman Gill’s name.

“Jaiswal could be a generational superstar,” Smith said. “Jaiswal’s probably the next big superstar, I think,” Starc added.

“I think Shubman Gill has the potential to become a superstar,” said Green.

“Well, I think Jaiswal’s, yeah, the next cricket superstar to come from India,” Carey said.

“Next generation superstar, I think… Jaiswal,” Hazlewood said.

“I believe Jaiswal will be the next generation superstar,” Lyon added.

“Jaiswal, I think, looks like a proper cricketer for all formats. I mean, him and Shubman are very good,” Labuschagne said.

“Shubman Gill, I think, yeah, I think he just needs more… As his career goes on, he’s ridiculous. Some of the innings I’ve seen, he makes bowling look slow. Plays off the front and back foot well, plays spin well. Yeah, Shubman’s going to be an absolute freak,” said Head.

India is set to embark on a busy home season, commencing on September 19 with a Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai, followed by another against New Zealand. However, the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series later this year is already generating significant attention.

The highly anticipated five-match Test series between India and Australia, commencing on November 22 in Perth, is poised to revive one of cricket's most intense rivalries. This series holds notable importance for India, as a victory would not only increase their World Test Championship opportunities but also help them to script history by completing a third consecutive Test series triumph in Australia.
