IND vs AUS 1st ODI: India's toss troubles show no signs of abating, as the Men in Blue suffered yet another setback at the toss, stretching their nightmare of losing streak to a dismal 16 matches.

India lost its 16th consecutive toss in men’s ODI cricket ahead of the start of the first ODI match against Australia at the Perth Stadium in Perth on Sunday.

Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl against India in the first ODI here on Sunday in the overcast conditions.

The coin flip has been a persistent nemesis for India in ODIs, as their last toss win came in the 2023 World Cup semifinals against New Zealand at Wankhede, a memory they can only hope to replicate soon.

For India, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is making his ODI debut at a stadium where he played his debut Test almost a year back.

India's batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ended their seven-month layoff, returning to the fray.

Speaking at the time of toss, Australia captain Mitchell Marsh said, "We are going to bowl first. Looks like a pretty good wicket. Hopefully it's fast. It's always a huge honour to lead your country. Hope we get off to a good start. The morale is great. We have some good young players. Seven batters, one wicketkeeper and four bowlers."

India skipper Shubman Gil said, "We would have bowled first as well. It's all about getting mentally ready. We are in a good mental place. The practice sessions help. We have a great combination. Nitish Reddy makes his debut. We are going with three fast bowlers and three all-rounders."
