India vs Bangladesh Kanpur Test: Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali slammed the management for their incapacity to ready the ground for play in Kanpur despite having super soppers and believes that Green Park should not host Test matches in future.
A drawn outcome in the second India-Bangladesh Test could significantly affect the hosts' standing in the World Test Championship (WTC) rankings, potentially altering their prospects.
Notably, Days 2 and 3 of the ongoing India-Bangladesh second Test were abandoned due to rain and a wet outfield and the play was cancelled on Day 3 despite no rainfall.
"They couldn't manage to dry the ground even though it hadn't rained since last night. Even after two super soppers, the ground was still wet. It means that the covers were not great. Whoever is the next BCCI secretary after Jay Shah should suspend Test matches in Kanpur," Basit said on his YouTube channel.
Sunday's play was cancelled due to lingering wet patches on the ground, including a problematic area near the bowler's run-up, despite no rainfall. The outfield remained damp, rendering the covers ineffective.
Basit voiced concern that a drawn match would significantly affect Pakistan's World Test Championship (WTC) standings.
"If the match ends up in a draw, then this result could affect India in the WTC standings. Everyone is thinking that India will win the three Tests against New Zealand. If one match ends up in a draw, then India could be in trouble. Kanpur doesn't deserve to host Test matches," he added.
Groundstaff endeavors to dry the pitch with sand and stabilize the surface with sawdust ultimately proved insufficient on Day 3.
