Women’s T20 World Cup: India started their warm-up fixture in the Women’s T20 World Cup with a comfortable 20-run win over the West Indies. West Indies opted to bowl first against Harmanpreet Kaur-led side and put India under pressure early, dismissing the top three batters within the Powerplay.

Captain Hayley Matthews played a major role in this, scalping the pivotal wickets of Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana in back-to-back overs.

However, Jemimah Rodrigues and Yastika Bhatia then steadied the ship for India with their 50-run partnership stand. Rodrigues was in her best form, slamming a well-crafted fifty, ending with 52 off 40 balls.

Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar delivered a late tide to take India past the 140-run mark.

In their chase, the 2016 T20 World Cup winners faced a similar fate as India, losing three wickets early, including captain Matthews.

Shemaine Campbelle and Chinelle Henry managed to stitch a solid 57-run partnership. However, India redressed by grabbing three wickets in the span of just seven balls, turning the momentum in their favour.

Asha Sobhana gave her team a big breakthrough as she ended the half-century partnership by taking a crucial wicket and then Deepti Sharma followed up by bagging two wickets in three balls, leaving WI tottering at 71/6.

However, Chinelle Henry fought bravely, remaining unbeaten on 59, but the West Indies toiled to uncover the firepower in the later phases of their innings. Eventually, they ended at 121/8 in their 20 overs, plunging 20 runs short of the target.
