IND vs ENG 2nd Test: England's star batter Harry Brook redeemed himself on the third day of the second Test match in Birmingham after missing out on his well-deserved century during the series opener. He brought up his ninth Test century off 137 balls, where he had smashed 12 fours and one six and helped the host bounce back during the second Test.
Brook was at his absolute best in the first Test match as he was inching closer to smashing a century in the series opener. Inbdia's Prasidh Krishna bowled a short ball and the fielder standing in the deep took his catch.
This innings did play a huge role in helping the host win the series and lead the five-match Test series by 1-0. Brook came into bat on the second day after the Shubman Gill-led side had posted a mammoth target of 587 runs and the hosts were tottering at 25/3. The youngster came in and played a gritty knock at the fag end of the second day and scored an unbeaten knock of 30 runs.
Brook's responsibility increased on the third day as both Joe Root and Ben Stokes were dismissed on successive balls and the Shubman Gill-led side were in the driver's position as they left England tottering at 84/5. Then Brook and Jamie Smith helped the team bounce back. Brook played the role of a second fiddle as Smith smashed the joint third-fastest century as an England batter.
Brook too smashed some brilliant shots and helped Smith to keep the scoreboard ticking. He did survive two nervy dismissals as he edged one and the catch was dropped by Shubman Gill and the other was almost hit directly to the stumps during the same over.
But he did smash the ball for a four post the lunch break and brought up his first century against the Men in Blue and had put the hosts in the driver's position.
