IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Shubman Gill scored a lot of 'aura' points for the way he declared an innings total for the first time as India's new Test skipper on Saturday in the second Test match and now the fans on social media reckoned that whether Shubman Gill's this act might land him in trouble with the BCCI. The incident occurred in the 83rd over of the third innings.
The visitors had planned to bat for as long as they could, even though there were just three sessions left during the game. When the drinks break was declared, Gill was seen wearing his black Nike vest and declared India's innings and called back Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja.
But there was one issue Nike vest! The BCCI had signed a contract with Nike's arch-rival Adidas, till March 2028 and that has given permission to Adidas to design jerseys for the men's, women's, and youth teams for all formats. Fans have questioned whether this act of Gill's has led to a breach of their contract.
One fan wrote, “using Nike while our brand ambassador is Adidas….shame on Gill hope Bcci takes action👍"
Another user said, “Gill’s Nike picture going viral may not be a good thing for him, not only did he not endorse their jersey sponsor, he went ahead and wore their competitor plastered across his chest😭😭 there might be sanctions and warnings. Yes, it is a HUGE deal."
Another fan wrote, “Looks like Shubman Gill just gave Adidas a Rs.250 crore masterclass in “Just Do It" with Nike! 😂"

BCCI's partnership with Adidas started way back in June 2023, when the Rohit Sharma-led side donned their new jerseys in the WTC finals. This deal is Rs 75 lakh per game and the overall value is estimated to be between Rs 250 to RS 300 crore.
At the same time, Shubman Gill has been Nike's brand ambassador for quite some time now. It has been reported that the deal is worth several crores.
