IND vs ENG 3rd Test: India's star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant scripted history on Saturday as he surpassed legendary West Indies' cricketer Viv Richards's record of smashing 34 sixes in the longest format against England. In his 17-year long Test career, Richards has represented West Indies in 36 Test matches against England and has smashed 34 sixes, meanwhile, Pant, who was featured during his 15th Test match against England currently, has smashed 36 sixes.

He broke Richards' record of smashing Ben Stokes for a six a the last ball of the 59th over and then smashed Shoaib Bashir for another six during the 62nd over.

As far as the batters who have smashed the most sixes in the longest format against the Ben Stokes-led side is concerned, apart from Pant and Richards, the other two batters are Tim Southee, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill.

Pant had scored a gritty knock of 74 runs off 112 balls during the second innings and had stitched a partnership of 141 runs with KL Rahul for the fourth wicket. Ben Stokes' direct throw ran Pant out during the third ball of the 66th over as he tried to take a single in order to get Rahul back on the strike to bring up his hundred at the Lord's ahead of lunch break.

In his knock, Pant had smashed eight fours and two sixes. He has hit a total of 88 sixes in this format and has also leveled Rohit Sharma's record of hitting as many sixes. Virender Sehwag is the only batter who has smashed more sixes than Pant in the longest format.

Pant scoring a fifty during the second innings at Lord's helped him achieve the milestone of scoring eight half-centuries in 22 innings and also leveled Dhoni's record of smashing the most half-centuries in the longest format as a wicket-keeper batter. In his nine-year-long Test career, Dhoni had smashed eight half-centuries in 23 innings in England.
