IND vs ENG 4th Test: The highly competitive series and the on-field tensions at Lord's which added to the intense rivalry between India and England have reached a crucial juncture as the visitors face an uphill task when they take on Three Lions in the fourth Test at Old Trafford starting Wednesday, with the series at stake.
England, led by Ben Stokes, will head into the series with a lead of 2-1 against India after victory in Manchester, while Shubman Gill's side grapple with selection challenges.
With India pacer Akash Deep on Tuesday ruled out of the fourth Test against England due to a groin injury, the choice for the third pacer will be between Prasidh Krishna and uncapped Anshul Kamboj, who joined the squad after Arshdeep Singh picked up a hand injury while training in Beckenham last week.
Ahead of the 4th Test, India captain Shubman Gill said uncapped fast bowler Anshul Kamboj is on the cusp of making his debut at Old Trafford.
“Never easy when there is a bit of injuries going on in the squad, like you said Nitish is going to miss out the series, and Akash is also unavailable for this next match, so is Arshdeep, but I think we have got enough good players in the team to be able to get 20 wickets,” Gill told reporters in the pre-match press conference here.
The fourth Test stands as a must-win encounter for Shubman Gill's India as they must win the Manchester Test to keep in the hunt for their first series win in England since 2007, while Stokes' side are aiming to keep the home side's excellent record intact.
Undeterred by the weight of history, India will be buoyed by their remarkable turnaround at Edgbaston, where the dramatic victory not only drew series level but also appeared to shift the momentum in India's favour.
