Young pacer Arshdeep Singh on Wednesday etched his name in the record books as he became India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is.

Arshdeep achieved this feat during the first T20I match of the five-game series against England in Kolkata on Wednesday. With the wickets of openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett, the young pace gun Arshdeep surpassed spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of 96 wickets in the format.

The 25-year-old pacer equalled the tally of Chahal by getting Phil Salt out for a duck at just the third ball of the innings. He surpassed the record by getting his 97th T20I scalp by dismissing Ben Duckett in the second over of the night.

Arshdeep quickly became one of the best fast bowlers on the Indian side ever since he made his debut in 2022, capturing an incredible 95 wickets in just 60 games. On the way to this achievement, Arshdeep surpassed Jasprit Bumrah’s record of 89 wickets in 69 innings at a noticeable economy rate of 6.27.
