IND vs ENG, ODI World Cup 2023: India team took the field wearing black armbands during their match against England in the ODI World Cup 2023 in Lucknow on Sunday.

The reason that the Rohit Sharma-led side was wearing armbands was to pay tribute and in memory of the former India captain and legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi, who passed away last Monday at the age of 77.

Bedi is regarded as one of the greatest spin bowlers India have ever produced. He played 67 Tests for India between 1967 and 1979 and picked 266 wickets.

"#TeamIndia will be wearing Black Armbands in memory of the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi before the start of play against England in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023," BCCI wrote on X.

He also took seven wickets in 10 One-Day Internationals he played. He played a key role in India’s first ODI win. His remarkable bowling figures of 12-8-6-1 restricted East Africa to 120 in a 1975 World Cup fixture.

Talking about the match, England won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, aiming to bounce back in the tournament that has been disappointing for them so far.

They stand in the 10th position in the points table with just one win and two points under their belt while India are placed in the second spot as they remain unbeaten in the tournament.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been in remarkable form in the tournament with the bat and he is captaining the side for the 100th time across formats.

The Men in Blue are batting first for the first time in the tournament, having chased down the totals in the previous five games.
