India vs England Highlights, World Cup 2023: India Beat England By 100 Runs To Go Top Of Points Table

India will face Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, November 2

England will face Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, November 4

"Very disappointed. At the halfway stage, chasing 230, we fancied ourselves, same old story. I wasn't sure if dew would come or not. We bowled well, took wickets, we would have taken 229. Personally, I wanted to soak some pressure up and then build a partnership and kill the momentum that India had. It's about committing and executing your skill. There wasn't scoreboard pressure. We are just falling short whichever way we are doing it. Some top players, we are a long way short of our best. Excellent start in the powerplay, there was a bit of indifferent bounce, the ground fielding was good. It felt like today was the day, but we didn't back it up with the bat. We still got lots to play for."

"Looking at where we were after the first 10 overs it was really important to create that partnership with KL Rahul. It was a challenging pitch, it got better to bat on as the game progressed, but happy with that win. I have got experience, it's not only about going out there and playing my shots (got to assess the conditions and situation) as well. It was necessary for me to create that partnership with KL. I still felt we were 20 runs short (at the halfway stage). Batting against the new ball was a bit challenging, the ball got softer and it wasn't easy rotating strike either. Like I said we were 15-20 runs short, but I will take that win any day.."

With the sixth win of the tournament, India have claimed the top spot in the standings with 12 points under the belt.

Wicket! That's it. Bumrah has provided the finishing touches as India make it six out of six in the tournament. This has been a spectacular bowling performance from the Men in Blue. Bumrah takes his third while Shami finishes with four wickets.

Wicket! Another one for Shami. This man has provided something special here for the fans and spectators. This is his fourth wicket as he removes Rashid for 13. India are one wicket away from victory.

Wicket! There wasn't any need for that shot there. Livingstone attempted a paddle sweep but completely missed out on the ball and was trapped in front. He took a review but that wasn't enough to save him. He departs for 27 as England go eight down.

Wicket! That was a horrible shot from Woakes. Completely missed out on the shot as Rahul didn't make any mistake behind the wicket with stumping. Jadeja gets his first of the match as England go seven down.

England have continued their poor cricket in this match as well. They bowled well but allowed Rohit and other batters to take India past 200. Talking about the batting, nothing can get worse than this. India are just four wickets away from victory.

Wicket! Shami looks unstoppable today. He comes back into the attack and breaks the partnership that was just starting to find the footing. He dismissed Moeen with a brilliant delivery. England lose their sixth wicket with Shami getting his third of the night. Moeen goes for 15.

Spinners are keeping things tight here as Kuldeep and Jadeja have capitalised on the foundation laid by the fast bowlers. Good over from Jadeja, four runs came off it.

Wicket! Well...There's the Kuldeep special. Buttler was completely outplayed by the turn. He pitched up so well and allowed the ball to turn. Buttler decided to play on the backfoot but completely missed out on that. Beauty of a dismissal as England lose fifth wicket. Buttler goes for 10

Kuldeep starts well as he gave away just two runs in his first over. He will have to carry the momentum provided by the fast bowlers.

England are in a desperate need of a partnership here. Maybe these two can provide something effective to make things stable for a while. Just one run came off that Shami's over.

30-0 to 39-4, Indian team is enjoying themselves out there. Both Shami and Bumrah with two a piece.

Crazy scenes! Shami gets the big wicket of Bairstow!

Bairstow played on the inswinging delivery by Shami. Now Shami is on a hat-trick!

Misses...

Cleans him up! Mohamed Shami joins the party, India on song. Crowd is going crazy at Ekana stadium as Shami shattered the stumps of Ben Stokes. Stokes scores a 10 ball duck.

England on their knees!

Bumrah eyes a hat-trick as he gears up for the next over. Will it be a full-pitched inswinger or a well-placed yorker? After conceding easy runs initially, India is making a strong comeback!

Misses... Close, but not close enough.

Bumrah on fire! It's two in two for him in Lucknow. Joe Root departs for a golden duck.

Two greats out for 0 on the same day? Not something you witness every day.

Bowled 'em! Bumrah gets his man, just when India needed it the most.

Lucknow crowd roars as Bumrah strikes! A short-of-length delivery outside off, Malan attempts a square cut, but an inside edge shatters the stumps. Malan departs for 16.

England's innings underway. They need 230 to win on a rather tricky track.

Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan on crease for the defending champions. Bumrah to start the proceedings for India in the second innings.

India post a total of 229 runs, losing nine wickets in the process. Rohit Sharma's impressive 87 and his milestone of 18,000 international runs were the highlights of the innings. England's bowlers did well, with David Willey taking three wickets.

Caught by Woakes in the extra deep cover! A crucial wicket as Suryakumar goes for 49.

With Suryakumar on crease, india will be eyeing a total around 250 on a slow Lucknow track.

Mark Wood to Shami, out Caught by Buttler! Fuller length delivery outside off, Shami tries pushing it with a nothing lazy shot and Buttler takes an easy catch. Shami departs for one.

Jadeja falls LBW to Adil Rashid's leg-break. A confident appeal, reviewed by Jadeja, but ball-tracking confirms it's umpire's call on hitting, clipping the top of leg-stump. Rashid claims his second wicket, Jadeja departs for 8 runs.

Rohit departs for 87, caught by Livingstone at deep mid-wicket off Adil Rashid. Livingstone's catch led to concerns about his right knee, but he managed to hold on, ending Rohit's impressive innings.

Two doubles and a boundary came off that over. Eight came of it.

Suryakumar will be aiming to grab the opportunity with both hands by putting up an effective performance here. India need the star batter to support skipper Rohit in order to post a challenging total.

Wicket! The partnership has been broken by Willey. It's a huge blow as KL Rahul departs for 39. Jonny Bairstow makes no mistake with the catch as India lose their fourth wicket.

This has been a very responsible innings from the Indian captain as he reaches his half-century. He has taken the job in his hands after the early blows. 54th half-century for the Indian captain.

Brilliant from Wood. That was pretty accurate from the star pacer as he gave away just three runs from it. 20 overs completed as India are on a rebuild here with Rohit and Rahul at the crease.

India need these two to stitch an effective partnership here to recover from the early blows. Rohit is set for that just need promising support from Rahul. Seven runs came off that over.

Shreyas Iyer goes after scoring four. Woakes takes his second. Iyer tempted by the in-between length, goes for the pull shot, but top-edges it. Mark wood takes a simple catch.

Big Wicket! Kohli goes without scoring a run. He advanced down the track, attempting a lofted shot, but did not quite reach to the  pitch of the ball. Mistimes it, and the ball lands in the mid-off region, safely in the hands of Stokes. India in trouble!

Woakes strikes! The delivery was pitched up around off, nipping back in. Gill attempted a drive but left a gap between bat and pad. The ball sneaked through that gap, shattering Gill's stumps. The man in form goes for nine, makes way for 'King Kohli'.

Brilliant start from David Willey as he went past Rohit's edge multiple times. Maiden over to begin.

Both teams have lined up for the National Anthem. First England then followed by India's.

"We are going to bowl first today. Not anything in particular, it's a gut decision. It's a great occasion and hopefully, today we bring our best. Today, we want to put up a good show. We haven't done ourselves justice, today we want to put up a show and play for pride. Playing in front of a full crowd and against India, it's a great occasion. We are going with the same team."

"We wanted to bat first, we have had a good time batting second. Looks like a good pitch, it's a new surface which has been relayed here. It has played well for the 100 overs. I mean it's quite important to think like that but it's important to get the two points. We have played some good cricket. It's always good to have a break. It's nice to come back here and get back into business. We are playing the same team we played in the last game."

Both teams will be going with the same team from the last game, making no changes for today's match.

England have won the toss and they have opted to bowl first. That means India will be batting first for the first time in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.

It’s the fourth game at this venue and some wear and tear can be seen already and some dry patches, spinners will come into play. Under lights, batting will get easier. Quality spinners will come into play. It is expected to spin, it is about how much and when. India are more dangerous when there’s a bit of spin. If it spins, it will bring Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali into play. If it’s a good pitch and it turns a bit, then India will be favorites. It looks like a decent pitch.

"Mark Wood, I have played against Mark Wood. I think he is a great bowler, he has a skillset to trouble the batsmen, so I would like to test myself against real pace,” said Virat Kohli.

"Adil Rashid is a very underrated bowler and he has been doing amazingly well for England, a very challenging bowler that I am looking forward to playing against," Kohli added.

Virat Kohli has 48 ODI centuries to his name and he will be eyeing the number 49 to match the legendary tally of Sachin Tendulkar against England.

Virat has 354 runs to his name in five innings so far with the help of three fifties and a hundred. He is the highest run-getter for India in the tournament.

India: Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul (wk), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan

England: Jos Buttler (c & wk), Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Sam Curran, Brydon Carse, Harry Brook, Gus Atkinson

Shami doing some light bowling on the practice pitches even as Ashwin and Jadeja have another serious inspection of the pitch with lots of pointing towards a spot outside the right-hander's off stump.

Ashwin also batted in the nets for a while during the practice session yesterday. India have an option to include the experience campaigner on the track which is known to be a spin friendly.

Hardik Pandya will not be available for the Men in Blue in he match against England as he continues to recover from his ankle injury. Pandya was expected to joint the team in Lucknow but his unavailability was confirmed by KL Rahul in the pre-match press conference.

India will be looking to continue their winning momentum with victory over England while the defending champions will be aiming to bounce back and produce some good cricket and may be try a bit to save their semifinal chances which are almost over.
