IND vs PAK, Champions Trophy 2025: Mohammed Shami etched his name in an unwanted record book by bowling the joint-longest over by an Indian in One-Day Internationals, which took place on Sunday.
This unpleasant achievement unfolded during India's Champions Trophy match against bitter rivals Pakistan in Dubai.
it was tough bowling with the new ball for Mohammed Shami to start off the day with Imam-ul-Haq facing a punishing 11-ball over yielding 6 runs, with the ironical distribution of runs being that five of those runs were scored from wide balls because the Indian pacer had difficulties controlling his swing and was off line.
After Shami made this unwanted entry into an elite club, he became the third Indian bowler to carry out an 11-ball over in One Day Internationals, alongside Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan. Zaheer managed to achieve the dubious feat of bowling 10-ball overs on six occasions.
The notorious record for the longest overs at this event is currently shared between Bangladeshi Hassibul Hossain and Zimbabwe's Tinashe Panyangara, both of whom have bowled 13-ball overs.
But even after the punishing ordeal of the 11-ball over, Shami continued to endure the rigours of the Dubai heat. He changed his shoes in the dugout, but he returned to bowl his next over in obvious agony, holding on to his ankle/calf area.
The physio rushed in, and Shami at the end of five overs chose to leave the field and seek further treatment in the dressing room.
