IND vs SA 2nd Test HIGHLIGHTS: Proteas Win First Series In IND In 25 Years With 408-Run Beatdown

Oh my word, what a grab that is! Running backward after Siraj sends it miles into the air, the tall Jansen covers ground, dives backward, sticks out a hand, and makes it miraculously stick!

A whopping 408-run victory, a first series win for SA in India in 25 years, a whitewash – a demolition in all senses of the word. What a performance, and the post-mortem for India begins in Guwahati.

Ravindra Jadeja brings up his fighting fifty in style with a huge six over deep midwicket.

Simon Harmer's five-wicket haul stunned India. Simon Harmer scalps his fifth wicket as Washington Sundar edges a sharp off-break to Aiden Markram. IND 130/7 in 60.4 ov.

India's confidence has been brutally shaken by South Africa's spinners' masterclass in Guwahati. India have crossed the 100-run mark; however, the side could not manage to get runs in the last two overs. 

South Africa strike in the very first over of the second session. Senuran Muthuswamy dismisses Sai Sudharsan for 14. The ball touched the edge of Sudharsan's bat as Aiden Markram took a good catch at the first slip.

And Sudharsan can take a break. After that early reprieve off the no-ball, he has ensured he has watched everything very closely. Slow going from him, but he is batting on 14*(138) and won't want to throw it away. Jadeja looking good at the other end, and will know as the senior player he will have to ensure he remains at the crease too.

But South Africa's session. Harmer continues to be sensational, 4 wickets in this innings. Tea break, back soon.

Ravindra Jadeja decides to break the shackles, dances down the track to Maharaj and slams a majestic six on wide long-on.

That's too good from Harmer, just plants the idea in Pant's head and catches him out by looping it up and slowing it down. Pant is far too early into his forward defence, bounces extra, catches the shoulder of the bat, and loops easily into the air for the slip to take.

He will do that because that's how he knows how to deal with pressure best. Marginally short, he rocks back and punches for four. Too full and he dances down to loft it for six over long off. Doesn't like going into a shell, does the Indian skipper.

Got him! Dhruv Jurel gets off the pair, but is dismissed right after. Not his tour despite the form he was in. Tentative early on, just pushes at it and it doesn't grip much. Genuine edge nicely taken low by Markram.

Dramatic stuff! Sudharsan dangles his bat outside off stump and a thin edge carries through to Verreynne. He's walking off, and Jansen is ecstatic – but not for long! The siren goes off, and Sudharsan gets a bonus life. Much-needed for him.

Sai Sudharsan hasn't quite made himself at home at this level in Test cricket, with a couple of nice innings but not the kind of performance that would nail him down as India's number three of the future. He has all the technique and the grit and mentality – but against the Proteas, application and focus and strength of character will be most important.

In the 4th Test in England earlier this year, staring down at a loss, Jadeja and Sundar both tonned up as they played out nearly 60 overs on Day 5. India batted bravely for 143 overs in that innings to keep themselves alive. Already 2 wickets down, you do feel a similarly herculean effort might be needed in Guwahati today.

Rishabh Pant is a fine fine Test cricket, there is no doubt about that. One of his country's best. But from a captaincy standpoint, he's not had the greatest outing playing deputy for injured Shubman Gill, and nor has he had a good series with the bat. Something needs to change for the wicketkeeper and the fan-favourite, and this is a player capable of iconic 4th innings knocks. But a very different kind to the one he typically is known for will be required today, with all his quality against spin integral to India's hopes.

Another day of domination for the visitors as India have been reduced to 27 for 2 at the end of 15.5 overs on stumps on Day 4. Sai Sudharsan and Kuldeep Yadav will be the overnight batters when the innings resume on Day 5.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal start India's massive chase on a cautious note. Yashasvi Jaiswal faces off against Marco Jansen, setting the tone for an intense battle.

South Africa have declared. Tristan Stubbs was the driving force behind South Africa's imposing total, and they strategically waited for him to reach his century before declaring. The moment he fell, the visitors decided to declare. 

Siraj suffers a painful fall on his right shoulder while diving to his left. He's clutching his elbow, and the physio is on the field. Padikkal is fielding as a substitute.

Ravindra Jadeja kicks off the final session, nudging a single to long-on and setting the tone. 28 overs remain, and Nitish Kumar Reddy is next up to bowl.

The lunch has been taken, and the Indian players would be so happy to get this rest for a while. They've had a disappointing day so far as South Africa have completely outclassed the hosts. The visitors have scored 220/4 in 70 overs in their second innings with Stubbs (60)* and Mulder (29*) at the crease. The lead has gone past the 500-run mark.

That wasn't a great appeal from the fielders, but that looked promising, and Kuldeep convinced skipper Pant to go for the DRS. The ball was missing the stumps and Stubbs has survived. More frustration for the home side. 

De Zorzi and Stubbs have done well in this partnership as South Africa continue to frustrate the Indian bowlers. Jadeja bowls a maiden over.

A promising and cautious start for the visitors as India couldn't get any breakthrough in the first few minutes. South Africa will be looking to add more to the lead as soon as possible before thinking about declaring their second innings. 2 runs came off that over.

The action has started on the fourth day as Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram resume South Africa's second innings. With a desperate need of a massive miracle, India have Bumrah bowling the first over of the day, and he gave just one run off it.

"Obviously, a good day for the chaps and for myself in particular. But yeah, I feel the spinners did a really good job when the ball wasn’t moving as much, and there was a dead period at some stage. I really feel the spinners did a brilliant job, and I’m just lucky to be the one who cashed in. Who said we didn’t fight hard? Like I said, there was a bit of pace and bounce in the wicket, which was nice. We did think we were probably going to field, or we were preparing to field, for at least two days. The boys did a really good job today," Jansen's statement.

Day 4 belonged to Marco Jansen, who produced a magical performance in all departments during the ongoing Guwahati Test. He first played a 93-run knock, making a crucial contribution in South Africa's big total. He then took a magnificent catch to send back Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-arm pacer then rattled through the Indian batting lineup and took six wickets to help his side bowl the hosts out for 201. 

"No, absolutely not. It makes no sense. I don't understand the thought process there. I mean, when they look back at this series, some of the selections… still trying to figure out the thought process there. For example, you play 4 spinners in Kolkata and bowl one of the spinners for just one over. Ideally, you should have gone in with a specialist batter. Similarly, here, making Washington Sundar bat at 3 in the last Test, but you could have easily made him bat at No. 4 here, now that you have a No. 3. He [Sundar] is no No. 8. He's way better than a number 8," former India head coach Shastri said while on commentary on Monday.

India's batting performance in this series has faced a lot of criticism. Skipper Rishabh Pant was slammed as well by the former cricketers for the needless shot he played in the first innings. 

“That is just a brainfade shot,” Steyn wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
