During the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 match against South Africa at the Eden Gardens, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma achieved a remarkable feat by equalling South Africa's AB de Villiers' record for hitting the most ODI sixes in a calendar year.

Rohit surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who is now second on the list with 56 sixes in the year 2019. The 36-year-old Rohit Sharma achieved this milestone in 23 innings, taking just five more innings than de Villiers.

In the course of his innings, Rohit hit Lungi Ngidi for two sixes, taking his total to 58 sixes for the year. However, he was subsequently dismissed after holing out to Temba Bavuma off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada. This achievement highlights Rohit Sharma's prowess as a batsman and his ability to clear the boundary ropes consistently.

Coming to the match, Virat Kohli also brought up his 49th century in One-day International cricket and equalled the record held by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar for most ODI centuries while scoring an unbeaten 101 against South Africa at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.

Kohli's handy century came in 119 balls comprising ten boundaries. Kohli scored his 49th hundred in only his 289th ODI, 173 matches faster than the legendary Tendulkar, who got there in his 463rd match.

Courtesy of Kohli's ton, India reached 326/5 after 50 overs on a tricky pitch. In response, South Africa could only manage 83 in 27.1 overs.
