IND vs WI 2nd Test: India will lock horns with West Indies for the second Test match in Delhi later this week. The Indian team management might keep the same playing XI for the second Test match.
Jasprit Bumrah, who is the world's No. 1 Test bowler, had featured in just three Test matches against England to manage his workload, but he might play in the second Test against the West Indies.
As per Ryan Ten Doeschate, who is India's assistant coach, he revealed during the pre-match press conference that they won't change the playing XI.
“I’d say we’re unlikely to change the combination," Ten Doeschate told reporters during the pre-match press conference.
He also said that they are planning to build a fast bowling all-rounder, and that's why Nitish Kumar Reddy was a part of the playing XI of the first Test match, and that he will again be a part of the side.
“One of the objectives, one of the sort of medium-term objectives, is to develop a seam bowling all-rounder for India," he added.
Their long-term plans explain why they will continue to back Reddy even though he couldn't do much in the series opener.
He also revealed that the coaches see this Test series against West Indies as an opportunity for Nitish to work on his all-round abilities instead of judging him on the basis of just one performance.
“It’s very important when we go away on tours that we have that position coming," he said.
“We didn’t get a very good look at Nitish last week, so I think it’s actually a very good opportunity to give Nitish another go and not alter the balance of the team. We think he’s a fantastic seam-bowling all-rounder," he added.
Ten Doschate praised Nitish's batting performances in Australia and said that he is a brilliant all-rounder as he can succeed at the top level. Nitish had smashed a 100 at the MCG.
“Nitish, I think he’s shown everyone in Australia just how good he is as a batter," he added.
“The challenge for him is going to be to make sure that he gets game time in between the away series. Like I answered the first question, I think in a series like this, where you look at the combinations, it’s more important to look ahead and see how he gets game time and a chance to develop his bowling. But the crux of your question is we really like him, and we think he’s a quality all-rounder," he concluded.
