IND-A vs BAN-A Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025 Semifinal: Jitesh Sharma revealed why the team didn't send Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the Super over in the semifinal of the ongoing tournament against Bangladesh A. The Men in Blue were knocked out of the race to the final on Friday as they lost to Bangladesh in the super over.

Since both teams had scored 194, the Indian team management had sent Ashutosh Sharma and Ramandeep Singh in the Super over and had left Suryavanshi, who had initially scored a gritty knock of 38 runs off 15 balls, which also included two fours and four sixes.

Jitesh revealed that although Vaibhav and Priyansh Arya play brilliantly in the powerplay, the team backed Ashutosh and Ramandeep owing to the experience they have of playing in the death overs.

“In the team, Vaibhav and Priyansh are masters of the powerplay, while in the death overs, Ashu and Raman can hit at will. So the Super Over lineup was a team decision, and I made the final call,” Jitesh told broadcasters in the post-match presentation.

SHOULD HAVE FINISHED THE GAME

Jitesh took the blame for the loss upon himself and admitted that he should have played till the end and taken the team across the line. He had scored a gritty knock of 33 runs off 23 balls, which included one four and two sixes, but Abu Hider Rony took his wicket.

“Good game of cricket and a valuable learning experience for us. I will take full responsibility— as a senior, I should have finished the game. It’s about learning, not just winning or losing. You never know, these young players may win a World Cup for India someday. In terms of talent, they’re touching the sky. It’s all about learning and gaining experience,” he concluded.

The Jitesh Sharma-led side were seen struggling in the Super over, as they couldn't score any runs as Ripon Mondal took two wickets. While chasing a target of just one run, Suyash Sharma took the wicket of Yasir Ali Chowdhury as Ramandeep took the catch while standing at long-on. And since Akbar Ali was on strike, Suyash had bowled a wide delivery and helped reach the final.
