England vs India 5th Test: Shubman Gill was adjudged as the Player of the Series for India after a remarkable effort with the bat throughout the five-match Test series against England. This was his first assignment as India's Test captain, and he led from the front to help the side draw the series as well.

The five-match Test series ended in a 2-2 draw after India registered a historic win in the Oval Test by just 6 runs as they bowled England out for 367 runs on the final day of the match. Mohammed Siraj stepped up and ended up taking a match-winning five-for. He landed the final blow and emerged as India's leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps to his name.

Gill produced incredible batting performances and was the top run-getter in the series with 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40. He struck as many as four centuries in the series, and amassed 430 runs in a single match—the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

The right-handed batter, who was picked for the honour by England head coach Brendon McCullum, said he was happy he was able to achieve the target he had set himself—to be the best batter in the series.

"... There were certain things I wanted to work on as a batter, and it was a goal to end as the best batter of this series, glad to get that goal. It is always a combination of technique and mentality. When you are feeling good mentally, then the technique naturally flows," Gill said after receiving the award.
