IND vs ENG 5th Test: England's star Test batter Joe Root had scripted history on the fourth day of the fifth Test match as he broke the record of scoring the most hundreds at home Test matches. Root's hundred during the second innings of the fifth Test match at the Oval was also his 24th hundred in the longest format at their backyard, and that's one more than Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, and Mahela Jayawardene's record of smashing 23 Test hundreds at home.

Root brought up his hundred by scoring two runs on the first ball of the 69th over.

With this hundred, Joe Root also surpassed Jack Hobbs' tally of smashing 12 Test hundreds against a single team. In his playing career, Hobbs had smashed 12 Test hundreds against Australia, and Root had scored 13 hundreds under his kitty against the Men in Blue in the longest format.

Don Bradman is the only other batter to have smashed more hundreds against a single team in this format, which is more than Root.

After playing in 20 Test matches against India in England, Root has hit 10 centuries. No other batter has hit more than eight Test hundreds at their backyard against a single team.

As far as the list of batters to have scored hundreds in the longest format is concerned, Root has now climbed to the fourth position. He has scored 39 centuries after playing in 158 matches. Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting are the batters who are ahead of him in this list.

At the same time during his knock, he had become the first player in the world to have scored 6000 runs during a WTC cycle and had also become the first player to have scored 5000 runs during a Test series against India thrice.

In their playing career, West Indies' Everton Weekes and Garry Sobers, Pakistan's Zaheer Abbas and Younis Khan, and Australia's Ricky Ponting had scored 500 runs during a Test series against India.
