IND vs ENG T20 World Cup 2026 Semifinal: Ex-England skipper Michael Vaughan has urged the Indian team management to include Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI for the T20 World Cup semifinal against England, citing his strong record against England batters. The team has kept their bowling attack consistent throughout the event, relying mainly on Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel as spinners, with Washington Sundar featuring in some group-stage matches.
The spinners have assisted the star pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh brilliantly.
But Kuldeep has played just one match in the 2026 T20 World Cup so far. He played the high-octane match against arch-rival Pakistan and registered match-winning figures of 1/14.

During a discussion on Cricbuzz, Vaughan clarified that his main argument for picking Kuldeep is based on how effective he has historically been against England's batting lineup.
"I would play Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep has had England on toast across formats over the years. He has always been a bowler England have struggled to pick. Do you need Tilak Varma or Shivam Dube down the order? Instead, I would be playing the left-arm leg-spinner against this England batting lineup. We don't know if Kuldeep is in form as he hasn't played. But him against the England batters will be a good matchup for India," Vaughan was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.
But he also realized that the Indian team management won't make many changes to their balanced playing XI ahead of a semifinal match.

“But Gautam Gambhir's history is to pack the batting generally. He sets up T20 teams with really powerful insurance at 7, 8, and 9. So what I am saying potentially won't happen, but it would be worthwhile to play Kuldeep against this England batting lineup", he added.
WHY SHOULD KULDEEP PLAY VS ENGLAND?
Vaughan's reasoning is based on Kuldeep's impressive T20 record against England.
In all the matches that he has played against them, he has taken eight wickets and given away just 77 runs after bowling in 12 overs and at a brilliant economy rate of 6.41. He does have the ability to make the ball turn away from right-handers, which has given England's aggressive batting lineup a hard time.
Irrespective of these figures, the Indian team management might stick with their existing spin attack in the ongoing mega event, as they will continue to include Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel in the playing XI.
With a spot in the final at stake, all eyes are on whether skipper Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir will stick with the current XI or bring in Kuldeep against England.
