India National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team Match Scorecard: India's left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh conceded 18 runs in the first over, equalling the unwanted record for the most expensive opening over by an Indian bowler in T20Is.
Arshdeep's tumultuous start was marred by a scatterbrained beginning as he conceded 18 runs in the first over, courtesy Devon Conway's ruthless batting, who smashed three fours and one six in the opening six balls.
Arshdeep etched his name alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar in an unwanted record. The left-arm pacer leaked 18 runs in the first over, mirroring Bhuvneshwar's 18-run over against Ireland in 2022, courtesy Paul Stirling's belligerent batting.
This marks only the second model of an Indian bowler leaking 18 runs in the opening over of a T20I.
Arshdeep's labours continued in the second T20I against New Zealand as he conceded another 18 runs in his third over, matching his disastrous first over. Tim Seifert ruthlessly smashed four consecutive fours off Arshdeep.
Notably, Serbian medium pacer Vukasin Zimonjic holds the unwanted distinction of conceding the most runs in the first over of a T20I match, surrendering 22 runs in the Hungary-Serbia T20I clash in Szodliget on August 31, 2025.
