IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2025: Aqib Javed, who is the selector of Pakistan's men's cricket team, is optimistic about their team's chances of beating India during the Asia Cup 2025 and highlighted the strengths of this team. It should be noted here that the Men in Green's record against arch-rival India in the shortest format isn't that brilliant.
Both teams have faced each other in 13 matches, of which the Men in Blue have won nine, whereas Pakistan has won just three matches. One match also resulted in a draw, where Inia had emerged victorious in the 2007 T20 World Cup.
The Men in Green had last defeated India in this format during the 2022 Asia Cup Super Four stage match as they chased the target of 182 runs quite comprehensively with just one ball remaining.
“Pakistan’s T20 team can beat India. India vs Pakistan matches are always huge. This 17-member squad can defeat any team. We shouldn’t put pressure on them, but I have high hopes for this squad,” Javed had told reporters during a press conference.
Pakistan will lock horns with arch-rivals India on September 14 in Dubai.
Babar and Rizwan aren’t completely sidelined
Javed also revealed that both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan can still return to the T20I side, as was the case with Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, and Fakhar Zaman. Babar and Rizwan haven't represented Pakistan in the shortest format this year, as they had last played way back in December 2024.
“It’s not that we are completely sidelining them. The current choices reflect how a player develops. I’ve given examples of Sahibzada Farhan, Saim, and Fakhar. Sahibzada made a comeback, Saim initially struggled but later created an impact," he said.
"You can’t put a stamp on any player’s career—opportunities are always there. Right now, they’re gaining experience in leagues like the Big Bash and PSL. Whoever performs will play, and only those who perform deserve to play,” he concluded.
The upcoming continental tournament is all set to start from September 9, where the Men in Green will be locking horns with Oman during their tournament opener in Dubai.
