IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2025 Final: India's T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav hasn't been at his absolute best during the ongoing tournament. Despite him being ranked as the World No.1 T20I batter in the past, his performance had dipped ever since he had become India's T20I skipper.
Since India will be locking horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in the summit clash of the ongoing tournament, where the team management will rely heavily on Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill's partnership, an equally consistent No. 3 batter is needed, and Surya hasn't been able to deliver. And what's more surprising is his poor record against Pakistan in the shortest format.

He has a poor record against the arch-rivals in almost all big T20I events. According to the stats, he has played in seven matches against the Men in Green during tournaments like the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. In these events, he has batted at an average of just 18.50 and a strike rate of 118.08 and has scored 111 runs.
Although it's quite concerning, it should be noted here that apart from having a poor average, he also got out in these matches, except for the group stage match held earlier this month.
Why did Suryakumar Yadav fail against Pakistan?
According to this table, it's quite clear that Pakistan's fast bowlers have given him a hard time. Apart from one knock where Mohammad Nawaz took his wicket, he has often been seen struggling against Pakistan fast bowlers like Hasan Ali, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf.
His strength against fast bowlers is that, after playing in 78 T20Is, where he has played against pacers, he has been out 55 times and has also played 36.1% dot balls at an average of 31.1. Although his strike rate is better, his success rate against them is 29.5%.

He does play better against spinners and has a success rate of 75% against them in this format. His weakness was consistently tested by Pakistani fast bowlers, and it might become a concern during the upcoming clash.
Conclusion: Can Surya overcome the Pakistan woe?
He can perform better in the summit clash with a better approach and by making some changes in his batting. He should analyse the length properly and should refrain from playing risky shots at wide, full deliveries.
He is known for playing unorthodox shots. Not playing those aerial shots might help him perform better, as he can bat longer by playing grounded shots. At the same time, staying calm is one of the reasons he can anchor the innings if the top order falters.
