Shahid Afridi has come up with a controversial remark ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 showdown between India and Pakistan. The arch-rivals will face off in Dubai on September 14.

Recalling the much-talked-about World Championship of Legends (WCL) match between India and Pakistan veterans which was called off, Afridi has taken a veiled dig by claiming that few players are still trying to prove they are 'Hindustani'.

Afridi says that he still cannot digest the reason why Indian players pulled out from the WCL match against Pakistan despite having prepared for it.

"I have always said that cricket should continue as it has always helped in improving the relations better between our countries. Money is there, cricket has become commercial. In England, people bought tickets to see the WCL match, and the players had practised to play against us. Then they (India Legends) didn’t play. So, I don’t know what the thinking was? I just don’t understand," Afridi said on Samaa TV.

Recalling his 'bad egg' remark at a former India cricketer, Afridi claims that the said player was told by his captain not to post anything on social media, but he didn't listen.

"Agar mai naam lunga na iss waqt, toh wo bechare phans jayenge (If I take any names, they will be in trouble). The player I referred to as a bad egg, his captain also told him, ‘If you don’t want to play, then don’t. Just don’t post on social media.’ But the player had come with some purpose. That is why he was a bad egg," Afridi claimed.

"There are several issues. Gharon tak pahunch jaate hain, ghar jalaane ki dhamkiyaan dete hain un players ko. Kuch aise hain jo vahan sabit kar rahe hain ki hum Hindustani hain. Bechare jabse paida huye hain sabit kar rahe hain hum Hindustani hain. (People threaten to burn down their houses. There are certain players who are still trying to prove they are Indian. They have been doing this ever since being born). Now they are doing commentary in the Asia Cup," he added.
