IND vs SA: Ex-India skipper Rohit Sharma was seen attending a practice session at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy at the BKC on Saturday for the ODI series against South Africa. He did attend a light training session at the venue where Mumbai was playing a Ranji Trophy match against Himachal Pradesh.

Rohit attended a light training session and then watched a small portion of the Ranji Trophy match, where the Shardul Thakur-led side locked horns with Himachal Pradesh.

As per reports, Rohit was seen walking towards the net during the lunch break and also took a look at how the players were training. He was also seen having a chat with his former teammate Dhawal Kulkarni, who is also their bowling coach.

Rohit has been training at the BKC since this year. Ahead of the ODI series against Australia last month, which was his first international assignment in a long time, he had worked hard on his fitness and conditioning at the BKC along with Abhishek Nayar, with whom he had to undergo a 12-week training regime, where he lost 10 kgs.

“It would surprise a lot of people. Even Team India’s strength and conditioning coach, Adrian Le Roux, would abuse me! But he did 700–800 reps for every body part. It was almost an hour-and-a-half session every day. Imagine if you were doing chest and triceps, you ended up doing 800 reps. With light weights, we did a lot of repetitions, aiming for strength and endurance. Along with that, we finished every session with around 15 to 20 minutes of CrossFit, which is more cardio and movement-based. This was six days a week, three hours a day, for three months. It was non-stop,” Abhishek Nayar said.

This did work in his favour in Australia, where Rohit had scored 202 runs in 3-match series against Australia, which included a ton in the last match. Rohit did take his own time to find his form as he had played competitive cricket after 4 months, and after the series, he realised that he is ready to put in the hard yards for the 2027 World Cup.

He was adjudged the player of the series award for his match-winning 167-run partnership with Virat Kohli in Sydney. He also became the oldest No.1 batter in this format.
