India vs West Indies 2nd Test: KL Rahul reached an impressive milestone on the first day of the second Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Friday.

Rahul opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal and completed his 2000 runs in the World Test Championship, becoming the seventh Indian to achieve the feat. He headed into the match 16 runs short of th achievement and bagged it by hitting Jayden Seales for back-to-back fours on the last two balls of the ninth over of India’s first innings.

Rahul, who had a memorable outing in the first Test in Ahmedabad, now has 2003 runs to his name in 31 WTC matches. Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who is not playing in the ongoing series due to a foot injury, is India’s highest run-getter in the WTC. Pant has played 38 WTC matches and has scored 2731 runs on the back of 6 centuries and 16 fifties.

He is followed by Rohit, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, who have 2716, 2697 and 2617 runs to their credit, respectively.

The overall record of scoring the most runs in WTC history is in the name of England’s Joe Root. The world No. 1 Test batter has amassed a total of 6080 runs in 69 matches played so far. Australia’s Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne are second and third on the list with 4278 and 4225 runs respectively.

India headed into the second Test with an aim to complete a 2-0 whitewash, having registered a dominating win by an innings and 140 runs in the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Having opted to bat first after winning the toss, India fielded an unchanged lineup.
