India vs West Indies 2nd Test: KL Rahul would be kicking himself for not capitalising on a promising start with the bat on the first day of the second Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Friday. With an aim to complete a 2-0 whitewash in the series, India opted to bat first after winning the toss.

Rahul looked in great touch for his 38 runs on the back of five fours and a six before he was dismissed by Jomel Warrican. The instance took place in the 18th over as Warrican ended up getting a delivery to turn away from the Indian batter by more than 8 degrees, after getting the previous go almost straight.

Rahul, after being stumped, came up with a surprising reaction to the amount of turn the ball got in the first session of the first Test. On the other hand, Warrican was delighted to draw first blood. Interestingly, Warrican managed to produce the turn by 2.7 degrees and 0.8 degrees in the previous two deliveries, but the third one turned by a mind-boggling margin of 8.4 degrees. Rahul, his partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, and even the commentators were stunned.

The nature of the turn also raised questions about the nature of the pitch that has been prepared for the second Test. However, the Indian batters kept calm and turned down the threat of turn throughout the day as they reached 318/2 on the first day of the match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's batting masterclass

Jaiswal ended up producing a memorable effort as he smashed his seventh Test century. He played an incredible knock of unbeaten 173 runs in 253 balls on the back of 22 fours. Skipper Shubman Gill has scored 20 runs so far and is still present at the crease with Jaiswal. The duo has already stitched a 67-run stand for the third wicket.

India's best effort came during the partnership of Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan. They dominated the West Indies bowlers, smashing them all around the park for fun and stitched a 193-run partnership for the second wicket. While Jaiswal played another impactful knock, Sudharsan missed out on his maiden century as he was dismissed for 87 runs.

Earlier, India skipper Shubman Gill won his first toss as Test captain and fielded an unchanged playing XI, whereas the visitors came up with a couple of changes.
